DRM-free iTunes?

Comments

Wow. This might motivate me to start paying for music again!
Oh, man, you can't forget the price point. Emusic's deal with the indies is still way cheaper than what iTunes might offer sans DRM. And for me, price is king. I'd take DRM if the songs were 25 cents a piece. But iTunes insists there should be virtually no discount.

Are they kidding? Packaging, manufacturing, and distribution is a huge portion of the cost. None are a factor in digital distribution. iTunes also ignores the fact that many older and less popular catalog artists probably should sell for less than the Beatles or Justin Timberlake. To me, these issues are just as crippling as DRM.
Yeah, that is totally true. Plus iTunes isn't a subscription, so one could stay with Emusic and buy from the big four a la carte with iTunes anyway.

So the math says I should stay on Emusic as long as I keep finding 90 downloads a month (which I've been doing handily)!
Yeah, I'm also on the 90 downloads per month tip. Sometimes I buy a booster pack, but I try to keep myself to the subscription plan.

But I look forward to the day when someone (Emusic or someone else) recognizes that there should be a bargain bin, just like there is a real record stores.
